Schuman: new works from February

*FEBRUARY 3 2025 -

The redevelopment of the Rue de la Loi, the chaussée d’Auderghem and the esplanade are nearly finished. Some one-off work, such as planting, signposting and road markings, is still planned.

From 17 February 2025, works will begin on the northern part of the Schuman roundabout and part of the rue Archimède.

From 24 February 2025, works will also begin on the service road of rue de la Loi running alongside the European Council buildings.

Planned works

  • Restore the waterproofing of the Schuman metro and train station
  • Adjust the road surface in line with the already completed areas
  • Install safety bollards

Rue Archimède and northern part of the roundabout

  • Pavement and asphalt repairs (Archimede)
  • Redesign the roundabout into a shared space with ground-level design from façade to façade.
  • Construct a two-way cycle lane and bus lane separate from the lane for cars.
  • Installation of safety devices (bollards)

Practicalities

Archimède

From 17 February until October 2025, traffic will be banned on rue Archimède, between the Schuman roundabout and the Jean Monnet crossroads. Only local traffic will be allowed from the Jean Monnet crossroads.

A general diversions will be set up via rue de la Loi, rue du Taciturne, rue Charles Martel and Square Ambiorix.
Car traffic will continue between avenue de Cortenbergh and the side of rue de la Loi via a new temporary road in the centre of the roundabout.

Cycle traffic will be diverted via boulevard Charlemagne and rue Stévin.

The public transport diversion will continue via Maelbeek. Access to the metro will be maintained.

Lateral road of rue de la Loi

From 24 February until the end of 2025, car and cycle traffic will be banned from the side road of rue de la Loi running alongside the buildings of the European Council. Access to the buildings from rue Froissart and chaussée d'Etterbeek will not be affected. A new access will be created from the exit of the Loi tunnel to serve the Residence Palace.

A cycle diversion will be set up between the Schuman roundabout and the crossing at Jardin de la Vallée du Maelbeek, on the new two-way cycle path.

Throughout the works, access to buildings and businesses will be guaranteed, as well as access for the emergency services. In the works site, deliveries and removals are still possible after contacting the ombudsman 0485 08 74 70.
